Historic Wilmington Holly Jolly Holiday Stroll

Check out the Historic Wilmington Holly Jolly Holiday Stroll!  On December 8th and 9th, area residents and visitors are invited to visit and stroll the historic downtown to experience holiday sights, sounds, flavors and activities.

This free, family friendly event kicks off on Friday evening with a ribbon cutting event at Riverfront Park that will also feature a musical performance.  As night falls, the Historic Wilmington Foundation will offer walking tours to view the exteriors of well-lit, nearby historic homes.

Saturday will begin with Santa’s arrival at Riverfront Park.  Everyone can get in the spirt by donning fun holiday apparel (dress as an elf, nutcracker or even wear tacky sweaters) to enter a costume contest prior to the big man’s entrance.

Throughout the day, Downtown merchants will provide refreshments and holiday gift ideas in an “open house” setting. Musicians, choral groups, and other entertainers will provide free entertainment.  A free scavenger hunt will also for strollers to find clues at select locations and qualify for prizes.

Visitors can also check out merchants competing in the annual Downtown Window Decorating contest and vote for their favorite.  Take all weekend to explore windows in the Downtown core, Brooklyn Arts District along N. 4th Street and Castle Street.

Window Decorating Contest

Windows throughout the historic downtown area will light up again this 2017 holiday season.  From the grand homes in the Residents of Old Wilmington District to the shops and restaurants in the festive Business District.  You may even see boats and the Riverwalk decked out festively along the bustling River District.

The Window Decorating contest is organized by the Downtown Business Alliance (DBA) and includes a People’s Choice award that is part of the Historic Wilmington Holly Jolly Holiday Stroll.

The purpose of the annual Holiday Decorating Contest is to create a festive atmosphere to capture the imagination of area shoppers and visitors.  Business owners can enter storefront windows, atriums and entire buildings in the competition. Entries range from Downtown’s historic core spanning from the Cotton Exchange to Chandler’s Wharf to Castle Street and to the Brooklyn Arts District’s North 4th Street.
